COMPAREX to fully support new international standard for SAM processesLeipzig, 05.07.2012 - Market leader in Software Asset Management provides comprehensive customer- ready SAM portfolio based on a recognized standard
On June 13th, ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) announced the availability of the new ISO/IEC 19770-1:2012 standard for SAM processes and tiered assessment of conformance. On the same date the first version of the standard, which was published in 2006, was withdrawn.
The new standard is a major breakthrough, and can be used by organizations of any size. Due to a tiered conformance model it supports incremental implementation, assessment and recognition. As opposed to the initial version of 2006, organizations not only receive a comprehensive framework but benefit from guidance that has been developed by experienced SAM professionals. Furthermore, 19770-1:2012 is applicable to any technological environment including on-premise, virtualized, cloud and even hybrid scenarios.
In practical terms, the earlier edition of the standard lacked large scale adoption because it was so comprehensive and demanding. However it has always been recognized as the undoubted SAM "gold standard", helping many readers to understand what SAM is all about. Due to industry feedback and the results of various surveys, the responsible ISO working group (JTC 1/SC 7/WG 21) developed the tiered approach to overcome the limitations of the earlier version.
Due to the evolution of the standard and its immediate benefits for organizations, COMPAREX Group, a leading SAM provider, has decided to utilize the standard internationally in all relevant SAM engagements, training and managed service offerings.
Stefan Brotzler, a member of the ISO SAM working group and responsible for COMPAREX’s global SAM strategy comments: “There was no doubt for COMPAREX whether to fully embrace this standard: ISO/IEC 19770-1:2012 clearly sets the expectations for SAM. There is nothing else that comes close, as the standard is flexible and applicable in any technological environment regardless of the software vendors in scope. Executives and managers in charge of Software Asset Management now have one simple choice. The tiered assessment of conformance helps to implement and assess even large scale SAM projects with a well-structured but simple approach. Our clients will love it, as many of them already took the 2006 version of the standard as a blueprint for their past SAM initiatives.”
COMPAREX Group will be the first provider worldwide that offers SAM training, managed services, coaching and project management based on the new ISO/IEC 19770-1:2012 standard. The comprehensive COMPAREX SAM portfolio helps organizations focus on SAM based on a recognized worldwide standard.
